What does the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program actually look like? It is an 8-week program that is evidence-based, experiential, and designed to provide participants with intensive and systematic training in mindfulness practices and integrating mindfulness into one’s daily life. The class meets for 2 1/2 hours per week; daily home practice is also an important part of the program. Participants often report a greater sense of joy in their lives, a new-found ability to appreciate the small moments of beauty and to be present with their inner and outer experience. The MBSR program consists of:

  • An orientation session (required for enrollment). In the orientation session, you will:

    • learn about the program, have the opportunity to ask questions, and determine whether it is right for you

    • get a taste of the mindfulness practices that you will be exploring during the MBSR program.

  • A brief (5-10min.) one-on-one meeting with the teacher prior to the beginning of the program.

  • Eight weekly classes, 2 ½ hrs each.

    • Guidance in formal and informal MBSR meditation practices

    • Mindful movement

    • Structured group dialogue

  • One All-Day class (about 6 hours), typically held on a Saturday or Sunday

  • Daily home practice assignments for 45-60 minutes each day

  • Resource materials, including guided mindfulness practices.

Class sizes are limited to facilitate group connection and conversation.

What you will need:

  • A strong commitment to attend all classes and the All-Day. While it may be necessary to miss a class due to unforeseen circumstances, it is not recommended to sign up if you know you will miss two or more classes.

  • A strong commitment to do the home practice.

For Live Online Zoom Classes, you will also need:

  • A desktop or laptop computer with speakers, microphone, and webcam, and a high-speed internet connection.  Mobile devices such as phones and tablets are not recommended.

  • A quiet space where you won’t be interrupted and where you will have room for the standing and lying-down movement practices.
